Simulation of Critical Components of Artificial Kidney

To showcase our impact, we have compiled a brief case study of a recent project using a solution only our simulation experts could provide.

Problem:

Design engineers of one of AltaSim’s clients were developing an artificial kidney. The engineers produced physical prototypes that produced undesirable patterns of blood flow, and because building and testing new physical prototypes is a slow process, the engineers were unable to solve this problem.

Solution:

AltaSim developed fluid flow simulations of our client’s complex device design and reproduced the flow patterns observed in the experiments. AltaSim then conducted a series of analyses with varying design parameters and identified the design that produced the desired flow conditions.

Results:

In just three months and with a $45,000 investment, our client developed a physical prototype of this design and demonstrated the same blood flow behavior as in the simulation, enabling the design team to proceed to the next phase of the design.
