Jeffrey Crompton

Principal, AltaSim Technologies

Dr. Crompton, known to all as Jeff, has a background in the development of technologies for use in a variety of industries. He has developed new technologies for the in vivo assessment of the integrity of implanted medical devices; led the development of surface treatments for use in the automotive, aerospace and consumer goods industries; developed innovative materials technology widely used in the automotive industry; and implemented advanced materials processing technology in Europe, North America, and Japan.

Jeff has extensive expertise in a broad range of engineering and materials technologies including:

  • Structure-property relationships of engineering materials
  • Adhesive bonding technology
  • Materials processing technology
  • Surface treatment technology
  • Organic/inorganic interactions
  • Acoustics

Jeff obtained his M.A. and D.Phil. in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Oxford. Jeff and his wife share their home with many four legged friends.

Kyle Koppenhoefer

President, AltaSim Technologies

Dr. Koppenhoefer, who prefers to be called Kyle, has extensive experience in a wide range of computational mechanics applied to the medical products, automotive, petrochemical and defense industries. He has considerable expertise in advanced finite element procedures and their application to the analysis of large structures. His specialties include:

  • Structural finite element analysis
  • Coupled thermo-mechanical FEA
  • Multiphysics FEA
  • Influence of residual stresses on structural behavior
  • Lifetime assessment of damaged components
  • Fatigue and fracture behavior of engineering materials and structures

Kyle has initiated and led industrial technology development programs focused on applying advanced computational analysis procedures to complex multi-physics analyses of real-world problems.

Kyle obtained his B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and his M.S. and PhD. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. He currently resides in Columbus with his wife Beth and their three children.

Luke Gritter

Principal Engineer, AltaSim Technologies

Luke has over thirteen years experience in multiphysics analysis and specializes in analysis of problems relating to fluid flow, thermal, electro-magnetic, plasma and acoustic phenomena. At AltaSim he has been instrumental in the development and application of multiphysics analysis to real world problems in the Medical Products, Consumer Products, Semiconductor Devices and Energy markets.

Luke’s areas of expertise include:

  • Plasma physics
  • Computational fluid dynamics
  • Thermodynamics
  • Electromagnetics
  • Mechanical systems

Luke received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan and now lives in Columbus with his wife and six children.

Joshua Thomas

Senior Engineer, AltaSim Technologies

Josh has over ten years of computational analysis experience, including graduate level training in computational mechanics modeling. At AltaSim, he plays a vital role in developing solutions to a wide range of multiphysics problems using COMSOL Multiphysics for the Aerospace, Petrochemical, Medical Products and Consumer Products industries. He is integral to the development and teaching of both COMSOL Multiphysics and SpaceClaim courses at AltaSim. His areas of expertise include:

  • Multiphysics analysis using COMSOL
  • Structural integrity of large scale structures using ABAQUS
  • Crystal plasticity for yielding and deformation of titanium alloys
  • Application of SpaceClaim Engineer for 3D direct modeling

Josh received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Ohio State University and lives in Columbus with his family.

Sergei Yushanov

Principal Engineer, AltaSim Technologies

Dr. Yushanov, better known as Sergei, has over thirty years experience in computational analysis and specializes in problems relating to electro-magnetic, vibration, structural, piezo-electric, and heat transfer. He has been instrumental in the development and application of multiphysics analysis to problems in the Automotive, Aerospace, Medical Products, Consumer Products, and Energy markets. Prior to joining AltaSim Technologies, Sergei performed mathematical modeling and computational analyses for design and technological process optimization in various areas. Among his areas of expertise are:

  • Electromagnetics, Structural analysis, Composite materials, Heat Transfer and Piezo-electrics
  • Multiphysics analysis using COMSOL
  • Structural analysis containing complex contact using ABAQUS
  • High rate loading analysis using LS-Dyna
  • Combined Structural and Thermal analyses of large scale structures

Sergei obtained his Master’s degree from the Latvian University and his PhD from the Russian Academy of Sciences. He lives in Columbus with his wife and likes to solve Maxwell’s equations with a pencil and paper.

Lynne Smith

Client Liaison, AltaSim Technologies

Lynne collaborates with our clients to identify and supply customer oriented, value-added services by assisting with access to information, expertise, services and documentation. In addition, Lynne also helps improve AltaSim’s efficiency by improving our operating practices and keeping our Associates organized; her background in business and education and proven to be a valuable skill in this area.

Lynne received her BS in Retail and Consumer Sciences from Miami University and Teacher Licensure from Notre Dame College. She lives in Columbus with her husband and various pets.
