Manufacturing Ovens

AltaSim guides engineers through multiphysics simulations so they can bring their products to market more rapidly, at a lower cost and with an optimized design. To help better understand what that looks like, we have put together a brief case study of how our simulation gurus provided a practical solution in a recent project.

Problem:

One of AltaSim's recent clients manufactures lithium-ion batteries components used in automobiles. Our client is increasing its manufacturing capabilities by adding additional ovens. They were unsure about the cooling rate in the last stage of the ovens. To design the remaining steps in the process, our client needed to be confident of their product temperature as it exited the last stage of the oven. They were unable to develop experimental measurements because the ovens were still being constructed. Thus, they were unable to make progress on the design of the manufacturing process.

Solution:

Our client leveraged AltaSim's extensive expertise in developing simulations of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and heat transfer in ovens. These simulations calculated the exit temperature of our client's product. This information enabled our client to design their manufacturing process with confidence.

Results:

The simulations showed the expected temperatures of the product and enabled the engineers to design the later stages of the process. Without these simulation results, the engineers would have been left with developing back-of-the-envelope solutions and over-engineering the next stage of their process. Using simulation enabled engineers to design the downstream process effectively and save several hundred thousand dollars.

In addition to developing simulations for our clients, AltaSim also trains engineers to develop these simulations. Our next heat transfer class, Heat Transfer Solutions using COMSOL Multiphysics will be live and online November 9-12, 2021.  Use the link for more information and to register.

We also train engineers in how to develop CFD solutions using COSMOL Multiphysics.  Our next CFD class will be provided live and online, November 2 -5, 2021. Click here for more information and to register.
