Factory Heat/JTEKT

AltaSim Technologies guides engineers through multiphysics simulations so they can bring their products to market more rapidly, at a lower cost and with an optimized design. To help see how working with AltaSim impacts our clients, we have put together a brief case study of how our simulation experts provided a unique solution in a recent project.

Problem:

One of AltaSim's recent clients is a manufacturer that uses heat treatment in their factory. The outdoor air temperature can reach 100 ⁰F in the summer. The indoor air temperature often exceeds 120 ⁰F during these months. The plant manager has spent approximately $500,000 improving the HVAC system for the factory without much success in decreasing the air temperature. The company does not want to make any more capital investments without a high confidence that the solution will work.

Solution:

Our client leveraged AltaSim's extensive expertise to develop simulations of their factory that included the heat treatment furnaces and the current HVAC system. AltaSim developed possible solutions to reduce the indoor air temperature without adding significant cost to the current HVAC system. These design concepts were simulated to determine the effect of each.

Results:

The simulations showed engineers and managers the effects of modifications to the air flow within the factory. AltaSim quantified and ranked the effects of each modification so our client could determine the return on investment of each change to their factory.

These simulations are classified as conjugate heat transfer solutions, due to the combinations of heat transfer and fluid mechanics. To learn more about heat transfer simulations, click here.
