Air Treatment Systems

AltaSim Technologies guides engineers through multiphysics simulations so they can bring their products to market more rapidly, at a lower cost, and with an optimized design. To help see how working with AltaSim impacts our clients, we have put together a brief case study of how our simulation experts provided a unique solution in a recent project.

Problem:

One of AltaSim’s clients designs and manufactures automated continuous UV-C air treatment systems. The company’s systems treat contaminated air that is an invisible threat to patients and health care workers. The system mounts in a drop ceiling like a standard light fixture and uses ultraviolet light to kill airborne bacteria and viruses that are circulated through the unit. Our client spent several years developing and getting FDA approval for their initial design. As the pandemic escalated, our client needed to get new products to market as quickly as possible. They did not have years to build, test, and get FDA approval for the new designs.

Solution:

Our client leveraged AltaSim’s extensive expertise in developing Multiphysics simulations to create virtual prototypes of their new design. AltaSim was able to suggest modifications to their new design that produced the same sterilization conditions as the FDA approved design. Our client developed a physical prototype of the new design, developed experimental data, and combined simulation and experimental data to receive approval from the FDA.

Results:

Our client was able to select a specific design concept that they were able to physically test and validate against the regulatory requirements. They accelerated their product development by investing $35k and 12 weeks into simulating their design. Our client saved more than one year by using AltaSim to assess their design concepts and were able to get to market faster than their competitors.

In addition to developing simulations for our clients, AltaSim also trains engineers to develop simulations. For more information on our classes visit our calendar.

We limit our classes to eight (8) students to maximize the attention each student receives. This limit causes our classes to fill up. Our next available class for computational fluid mechanics will be in August. To learn more about this course, click here.
