Problem:
Our client’s engineers were developing a new breathing apparatus designed to pump air into a helmet. During the development phase, users reported excessive noise within the helmet, so the engineers needed to utilize simulation to determine whether the noise originated from the pumps or the airflow through the device. Given the extensive design work required for this device, the team did not have the time to construct these complex simulations .
Solution:
AltaSim provided additional engineering support to the client’s design team by developing simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics® to quantify the contribution of flow-induced noise within the helmet. This allowed the design team to concentrate on prototype development and testing while AltaSim conducted the simulations concurrently.
Results:
By investing $30,000 to work with AltaSim, our client’s engineering team used the simulation results to measure the impact of flow-induced noise on the helmet's acoustics. These results helped identify the specific locations along the flow path that generated the most noise. AltaSim proposed subsequent design modifications, enabling the client to make continued progress on all facets of product development while AltaSim focused on analyzing the flow-induced noise.
