This case study highlights how our team helped a client streamline complex post-processing workflows and expand simulation access across their engineering team.
Problem:
A client was using a MATLAB script to post-process data from an acoustics simulation built in COMSOL Multiphysics®. While effective, this workflow required exporting simulation results to MATLAB, adding time and complexity to each analysis.
The client wanted to implement these advanced post-processing routines directly within COMSOL Multiphysics® to streamline their process and enable model compilation into a standalone application usable by less experienced engineers. However, the required post-processing functionality relied on MATLAB-specific capabilities that were not natively available in COMSOL Multiphysics®. In addition, the client lacked experience developing custom methods or applications within the COMSOL® environment.
Solution:
AltaSim developed custom Java code to perform the required post-processing directly on the simulation data and embedded this code into COMSOL Multiphysics® using built-in methods. This approach enabled both simulation and post-processing to be performed entirely within COMSOL Multiphysics®, eliminating the need for external scripts.
AltaSim also designed an intuitive User Interface for the simulation and compiled the model into a standalone application, allowing engineers without deep expertise to run analyses and review results confidently.
Results:
The standalone simulation application streamlined the client’s workflow and reduced the effort required to run and interpret a large number of simulations. By embedding advanced post-processing directly into COMSOL Multiphysics®, the client enabled broader access to simulation insights, improved efficiency, and supported faster evaluation of design concepts across their engineering team.
