Improved Simulation Methodology for an Optical Device

Problem:

Our client was developing a new high-end optical device utilizing COMSOL Multiphysics® simulations. The physics simulation they created required millions of iterations, including logical decisions based on previous results. Their simulation methodology demanded several weeks, if not months, of continuous analysis time to achieve the desired outcomes and resulted in frequent failures that necessitated forced restarts of the entire process.

Solution:

AltaSim collaborated with our client’s engineers to review the simulation process. We devised a plan to execute all aspects, using COMSOL Multiphysics®. This approach involved integrating numerous MATLAB scripts into COMSOL® methods to perform specific simulations based on the outcomes of preceding simulations.

Results:

The restructured simulations employed various methods and reduced the runtime by a factor of ten. Analyses that previously took approximately two weeks were now completed in one day. The decreased runtime expedited our client’s product development, enabling them to create a prototype design within several months.
