Engineers who work with AltaSim Technologies bring their products to market more rapidly, at a lower cost, and with an optimized design by leveraging our guidance for implementing Multiphysics simulations. To help see the impact we have on our clients, we have put together a brief case study of a unique solution our simulation experts produced on a recent project.
Problem:
A client of AltaSim’s was developing a new sensor design using electromagnetic fields to measure the conductivity of sea water. This measurement represents one of the critical basic measurements taken by oceanographers. The sensor needed to be able to operate at depths that apply a significant hydro-static pressure to the sensor so needed to have a metallic frame. Our client experienced design challenges when attempting to include electrically conductive materials around the sensor.
Solution:
AltaSim developed simulations of the current electromagnetic sensor design that included the metallic support structure. AltaSim used this simulation to modify key design variables and visualize the electromagnetic fields within the sensor to improve performance. Our client was then able to understand how the metallic support structure perturbed the electromagnetic fields.
Results:
Through working with AltaSim, our client was able to develop an improved sensor design that met both sensitivity and depth requirements. After three months developing these simulations and an investment by our client of $20,000, our client is now moving forward with their new product.
AltaSim partners with companies to provide simulations that increase the knowledge and understanding of our clients’ engineering staff. Through these simulations, we work with our clients to develop actionable plans to solve their engineering challenges. To better understand our simulation services, visit our website for an overview.
