This course provides an overview of the methods to obtain a converged solution for cases with a large number of degrees of freedom, and/or nonlinearity. Attendees will learn techniques to develop converged solutions and reduce computational requirements for specific classes of problems.
The course covers:
The structure of the Study Node in COMSOL Multiphysics
Best practices for selection of solver settings to obtain converged solutions
Solver settings for effective use computational resources
Differentiation between classes of problems
Differences between solver settings for:
Stationary vs. time-dependent
Linear vs. non-linear
Single vs. Multiphysics problems
Diagnosing solver errors and selecting advanced solver settings
Participants are expected to have a working knowledge of COMSOL Multiphysics before attending.
Cost
The cost for this course is $800 per person for on-site or web-based training. Each attendee of web-based training must be a registered student.
Who Should Attend
This course is intended for people who seek to analyze computational models with non-linear solutions and/or large numbers of degrees of freedom using COMSOL Multiphysics. It is expected that attendees will have an existing knowledge of the structure of COMSOL Multiphysics and will possess a relevant engineering, physics, mathematics or science background.
Course Content
In this course, attendees will be led through use of COMSOL Multiphysics and will focus on use of the Study Node to obtain converged solutions of complex problems with non-linearity and high number of degrees-of-freedom. The following items will be covered:
Structure of the study node
Critical solver variables in the study node
Effect of changing critical variables
Best practices for non-linear problem solving
Methods to reduce computational memory and CPU time
Registration
To register, click on the orange ‘Register Now’ button. For questions e-mail or call Lynne Smith at 614 861 7015 x10. Early registration is encouraged as the number of participants is limited. Upon registration you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your reservation and additional information from AltaSim.
Instructors
Instruction for the Solver Settings for COMSOL Multiphysics course will be performed by experienced engineers who use COMSOL Multiphysics on a daily basis to solve a wide range of complex multiphysics problems. Among the instructors will be:
With over eight years of computational analysis experience, Josh has a graduate-level training in computational mechanics modeling specializing in microstructural analysis. As a Research Engineer at AltaSim, he plays a vital role in developing solutions to a wide range of multiphysics problems using COMSOL. He has been integral to the development and teaching of both COMSOL Multiphysics and SpaceClaim courses at AltaSim.
Luke has over ten years experience in multiphysics analysis and specializes in analysis of problems relating to fluid flow, thermal, electro-magnetic, plasma and acoustic phenomena. As a Research Engineer at AltaSim he has been instrumental in the development and application of multiphysics analysis to real world problems in the Medical Products, Consumer Products, Semiconductor Devices and Energy markets.
